CLI sign-in and session

How Era access, provider sign-in and the terminal session connect.

There is no era login or era logout command. Desktop prepares the session; signing into your Era account and the model provider are separate operations.

Pair your Era account

Choose Sign in with Era on Desktop, complete browser device authorization and check the workspace.

Sign into the provider

Prepare your engine under Settings → AI → My subscriptions. This account supplies AI use; it does not change your Era role.

Verify a new chat

era tools
era overview --text

This terminal uses the chat’s person and workspace context. The server applies current access if your role changes.

Technical session boundary

ERA_CLI_URL accepts only /era/mcp on http://127.0.0.1; Desktop supplies the port. ERA_CLI_TOKEN is the chat-scoped key. User/password URL components, query parameters, other hosts and redirects are refused. Do not put actual values in .env, docs or command history.

Session error

Exit code 3 indicates a missing/expired session or invalid door. Check Desktop connectivity and use a new chat terminal. Substituting an MCP key for ERA_CLI_TOKEN is not a fix; remote MCP is configured separately.

Account and access

The CLI acts with your current role. A provider subscription does not grant management of Sales, Finance or other products.
