Subscriptions and your own API key
Know which provider account runs work and who bills it.
Era orchestrates your own AI sources alongside business tools. Check both the model and the account that runs it.
| Source | Usage and billing | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Supported subscription | Your provider plan’s quota and terms apply. | A connected, available provider account. |
| Your API key | Billed to the provider API account, separate from an application subscription. | Your key or a connection you are permitted to use. |
Prepare a connection
Inspect provider connections under Settings → AI. For supported sources such as Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity and Grok, complete the offered sign-in steps. Available models depend on the connected account and provider support.
For API use, add a supported provider’s key to its connection. Never put a key in chat. Shared connections still require member access; another account being connected does not grant permission to use it.
Choose a source in chat
Open the model control and inspect the source and model. If provider quota or connectivity stops work, read the stopping reason. Explicitly choose another source if needed; subscription and API billing are separate.
Desktop and background work
Local computer, file, browser and terminal work requires an eligible desktop connection. Brain and other background work also need an available source. Work may wait when the source or quota is unavailable.
